Ingredients for Quince Puff Pastry

  • 2 quinces
  • 6 sheets puff pastry dough
  • 1/2 water glass (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 water glass (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp) water
  • 1 tablespoon butter

How to Make Quince Puff Pastry

Wash and peel 2 quinces, cut them in quarters, remove the cores, and dice into cubes. In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 water glass of granulated sugar, 1/2 water glass of water, 1 tablespoon of butter, and the diced quinces. Cook until the color deepens and the quinces are tender, then remove from heat. Place 1 tablespoon of the prepared quince filling in the center of each puff pastry sheet, fold both sides inward, roll them up, and arrange on a parchment-lined baking tray with the folded side facing down. (Prepare all the puff pastries in the same way.) Score the tops with a knife. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (390°F) until golden brown.

About This Recipe

Quince, native to Eurasia, is an autumn fruit. There is so much you can make with quince — Quince Dessert, Quince Jam, or compote… It offers a remarkably wide flavor palette. Tea can even be made from quince leaves. Quince leaf tea is a common winter tea used during flu and cold season, and is known to be a true remedy. This tea is a natural calming agent and is known to help with heart discomfort.

Eating quince raw is quite difficult. Since it can be hard to swallow and is tough for the stomach to digest, it is generally consumed cooked. Cooked quinces are much easier to enjoy and cause no digestive issues.
