Ingredients for Karaköy Poğaçası (Turkish Soft Rolls)
- 1 package margarine at room temperature (250 g / about 9 oz)
- 1 package dry yeast (10 g)
- 1 water glass (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp) milk
- 1 dessert spoon (about 2 tsp) salt
- 2 eggs (yolk of one reserved for topping)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 5 water glasses (about 1 liter / 4 1/4 cups) flour
- 1 tea glass (about 100 ml / 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp) vegetable oil
How to Make Karaköy Poğaçası (Turkish Soft Rolls)
In a bowl, combine 1 water glass (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp) of warm milk, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, and 1 package of dry yeast. Stir well until dissolved and let rest for 5 minutes. Place 5 water glasses of flour into a deep bowl, make a well in the center, and add the yeast mixture. Add 1 package of room-temperature margarine, 1 tea glass of vegetable oil, and 1 egg, then mix to combine. Add 1 dessert spoon of salt along the edges of the dough and knead very briefly just until everything comes together. Once the dough is ready, cover it with plastic wrap and let it rise for 30 minutes.
