- 1 water glass (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp) vegetable oil, for frying
How to Make Potato Köfte (Turkish Meatballs)
Boil the potatoes, then drain and peel them. In a bowl, mash the potatoes together with half a water glass of grated kaşar cheese. Add half a tea glass of flour, 1 egg, 1 dessert spoon of salt, and half a teaspoon of black pepper, mix well, and let the mixture rest in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Spread 1 water glass of breadcrumbs onto a wide plate. Take pieces from the prepared potato mixture, shape them into köfte (meatball shapes) in your palm, coat them in the breadcrumbs, and fry in 1 water glass of hot oil.
About This Recipe
Did you ever shout "fatty potato!" at a chubby person when you were a kid? If you didn't, you deserve a big round of applause — but if you did, you're not alone. We all had our share of childhood mischief.
Of course, our concern here isn't to revisit our childhoods, but did you know that the very potato we once used as an insult actually changed the course of world history? In his 1999 article titled "How the Potato Changed World History," renowned historian William H. McNeill argued that the potato, which arrived from the American continent in the 1770s, saved northern Europe — then battling famine and hunger — from collapse, helped it prosper, and paved the way for the formation of today's nations. The benefits of the potato, which has been a vitamin powerhouse for humans for over 8,000 years, are truly endless. But we've highlighted a few of the lesser-known ones here: It strengthens the immune system. It alkalizes the blood. Thanks to its phosphorus content, the potato is said to boost male sexual vitality — don't take our word for it, that's what the experts say. The manganese found in potatoes is a true friend to women's skin. This remarkable vegetable not only benefits the skin when eaten, but also beautifies and firms the complexion when used in creams and masks.
We know there's no end to the dishes, börek (savory layered pastries), and pastries made from this vegetable. Today, we've prepared a Potato Köfte recipe that will fill your kitchen with a wonderful aroma and earn a permanent place of honor at your table.
