- 1 water glass (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp) granulated sugar
- 1 water glass milk
- 1 water glass vegetable oil
- 1 water glass semolina
- 1 water glass flour
- 1 packet vanilla
- 1 packet baking powder
- For the syrup: 1.5 water glasses water
- 1.5 water glasses granulated sugar
- 2-3 drops lemon juice
- Shredded coconut for garnish
How to Make Revani (Turkish Semolina Cake)
- In a bowl, beat 3 eggs with 1 water glass of sugar. Add 1 water glass of milk, 1 water glass of vegetable oil, 1 water glass of semolina, 1 water glass of flour, 1 packet of vanilla, and 1 packet of baking powder, then beat again. Pour this mixture into a greased glass baking dish. Bake in the oven at 180°C (350°F) until the top turns golden pink. Once baked, cut into squares while still hot in its own dish.
- In a separate saucepan, bring 1.5 water glasses of water, 1.5 water glasses of granulated sugar, and 2-3 drops of lemon juice to a boil. Remove from heat 1-2 minutes after the sugar has dissolved. Once the syrup has cooled, pour it over the baked revani and serve with shredded coconut after the revani has absorbed the syrup. Enjoy!
About This Recipe
Semolina is a coarse-ground flour obtained from durum wheat. In Turkish culinary culture, it is most commonly used in the making of desserts and halva (helva).
Semolina has a high carbohydrate content, making it an excellent source of energy. It is especially recommended for children in their growth years and for individuals who engage in intense physical activity. As a high-fiber food, semolina is also rich in magnesium. Thanks to its protein content, it has a low glycemic index, which means it is digested slowly and raises blood sugar gradually. It also provides a lasting feeling of fullness. This coarse-ground flour is also highly beneficial for heart and kidney health. The potassium found in semolina helps maintain the electrolytes essential for heart and kidney function at adequate levels. The iron mineral found abundantly in semolina is particularly important for people who suffer from anemia. Iron helps hemoglobin — which carries oxygen in the blood — function more efficiently. Among the benefits of semolina is its ability to ease digestion. In addition to all of this, regulating and balancing blood sugar, providing energy, and being rich in vitamins E and B are among the other benefits it offers the human body. Doctors generally do not recommend it for people with diabetes, those on a diet, or those with insulin resistance.
