300 g (about 10.5 oz) ground meat
1 onion
1 handful parsley
1 egg
3 slices bread
2 tablespoons salça (Turkish tomato/pepper paste)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 dessert spoon (about 2 tsp) oregano
1 cube sugar
½ dessert spoon (about 1 tsp) salt
1 water glass (about 200 ml / ¾ cup + 1 tbsp) water
How to Make Köfte in Tomato Sauce (Salçalı Köfte)
Grate 1 onion into 300 g of ground meat and chop 1 handful of parsley. Add 1 egg, 3 slices of soaked bread (inner part only), salt, and black pepper, then knead together. Shape the mixture into köfte (Turkish meatballs). Fry them in a pan.
In a wide, shallow pot, sauté 2 tablespoons of salça (Turkish tomato/pepper paste), 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, 1 dessert spoon of oregano, 1 cube of sugar, and ½ dessert spoon of salt briefly, stirring to combine. Add 1 water glass (about 200 ml / ¾ cup + 1 tbsp) of water and bring to a boil. Add the fried köfte, bring back to a boil once more, then remove from heat. Enjoy your meal!
