Ingredients for Roasted Red Pepper Gözleme (Turkish Flatbread)
- 6 roasted red peppers
- 100 g white cheese (similar to feta)
- 1 handful parsley
- 3 sheets yufka (thin Turkish phyllo-like dough)
- Butter, for spreading on top
How to Make Roasted Red Pepper Gözleme (Turkish Flatbread)
Crumble the white cheese in a bowl using a fork. Add the roasted red peppers, diced into small cubes. Chop the parsley and add it in, then mix everything together. Cut 1 sheet of yufka in half down the middle. Place 1.5 tablespoons of the filling in the center of the yufka. Fold the yufka over the filling like a gözleme so that nothing spills out (folded like a parcel). Prepare the remaining yufka sheets in the same way. Cook in a non-stick pan until golden on both sides. Once removed from the pan, spread butter on the top and bottom. Enjoy!
About This Recipe
Research on peppers indicates they have been used in kitchens for over 1,700 years. From ancient times to the present day, peppers have been used both to add flavor to dishes and to promote health and prevent illness. Peppers contain high levels of minerals and vitamins. While we're on the subject, here's an interesting fact: all peppers are actually green to begin with. They start ripening as green, then turn yellow and finally red. This is because they are harvested at different stages of their chemical development.
South America is known as the origin of the pepper. It is the oldest cultivated vegetable in the Americas and is known to have spread throughout the world following the discovery of the American continent. Belonging to the nightshade family, peppers are among the vegetables with the greatest number of varieties — over 700 species exist. It is known that wild pepper varieties were consumed by the indigenous peoples of the Americas around 7500 BC, and that pepper cultivation took place between 5200 and 3400 BC. Research has also shown that the Aztecs and Mayans had a habit of eating peppers with everything.
