- 1 dessert spoon (about 2 tsp) tomato paste (domates salçası)
- 1 tea glass (about 100 ml / 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp) vegetable oil
- 6 garlic cloves
- 1 water glass (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp) peas
- 2 potatoes
- 1 carrot
- 1 dessert spoon (about 2 tsp) salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Aleppo pepper flakes
- 2 oven roasting bags
How to Make Saucy Chicken with Peas
In a bowl, combine 1 dessert spoon of tomato paste (domates salçası), 1 tea glass (about 100 ml / 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp) of vegetable oil, and 6 whole garlic cloves, and mix together. Remove the skin from the washed chicken thighs and place them into the sauce. Add 1 water glass (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp) of peas on top. Add 2 peeled potatoes cut into finger-sized strips and 1 peeled, thinly sliced carrot. Sprinkle with 1 dessert spoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of Aleppo pepper flakes, then toss to combine. (If you have time, you can let the chicken marinate in this sauce for half an hour.)
Divide the ingredients evenly between 2 oven roasting bags. Tie the openings closed and pierce holes in the tops with a toothpick. Place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and bake in the oven at 190°C (375°F) until the chicken is golden and cooked through.
About This Recipe
Although the exact origin of peas — a member of the legume family — is not precisely known, they have been cultivated in Eurasia since ancient times. The name comes from the Latin word "Pisum," which is a Latinization of the Greek word "Pison."
