Ingredients for Shrimp with Tarator Sauce (Taratorlu Karides)

  • 3-4 slices stale bread
  • 400 g (about 14 oz) small shrimp
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tea glass (about 100 ml / 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp) walnuts
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 3 tablespoons strained yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 dessert spoon (about 2 tsp) lemon juice
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt

How to Make Shrimp with Tarator Sauce (Taratorlu Karides)

Soak 3-4 slices of stale bread in water. Once soaked, remove the soft inner part, squeeze out the excess water, and crumble into a bowl. Add 1 tea glass (about 100 ml / 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp) of crushed walnuts, 1 dessert spoon (about 2 tsp) of lemon juice, 2 crushed garlic cloves, 3 tablespoons of strained yogurt, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Mix all the ingredients together well with a spoon. (If you have a food processor, the sauce will turn out even smoother.) Refrigerate for about 1 hour.

Sauté 400 g (about 14 oz) of small shrimp in a pan with 1 tablespoon of butter and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Season with half a dessert spoon of salt, toss to combine, and remove from heat. On a serving plate, first spread the tarator sauce, then arrange the shrimp on top. Enjoy!
