Ingredients for Yalancı Tavuk Göğsü (Mock Turkish Milk Pudding)

  • 3 tablespoons vegetable margarine or butter
  • 1 water glass (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp) flour
  • 1.5 water glasses (about 300 ml / 1 1/4 cups) granulated sugar
  • 1 liter (about 4 1/4 cups) milk
  • 1 packet vanilla

How to Make Yalancı Tavuk Göğsü (Mock Turkish Milk Pudding)

First, place 3 tablespoons of margarine or butter into a saucepan and melt over medium heat. Add 1 water glass of flour and sauté, stirring continuously, until it releases its aroma. Gradually pour in the milk while whisking with a wire whisk. Then add 1.5 water glasses of granulated sugar and cook, stirring, until the mixture thickens. Once it comes to a boil, remove from heat. Stir in 1 packet of vanilla and beat with a hand mixer for about 3–4 minutes. Pour into a small dampened glass baking dish and allow to cool to room temperature. Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 3–4 hours. When fully set, cut into long strips, halve them lengthwise, and roll them up. Serve with a dusting of cinnamon if desired.
