Foods You Should Never Store in the Refrigerator
Did you know that refrigerating certain foods actually shortens their shelf life? Here are the common misconceptions and the foods you should never put in the refrigerator.

Tomato
Tomatoes are one of the foods that should not be stored in the refrigerator. At refrigerator temperature, tomatoes soften in texture, their internal structure breaks down, and their flavor changes.

Cantaloupe
When stored at the standard refrigerator temperature of 4°C (39°F), cantaloupe begins to lose its flavor.

Olive Oil
Olive oil has a tendency to solidify after a certain period of time in the refrigerator. Its color may also darken. It is not suitable for refrigerator storage.

Chocolate
Chocolate stored in the refrigerator may develop a white coating on its surface after some time.

Coffee
Just like chocolate, coffee can start to develop a white coating on its surface after spending some time in the refrigerator. For this reason, coffee should be stored in a dry, cool place.

Flour
Sugar or flour stored in the refrigerator for a long time may develop structural deterioration. Since this can lead to a loss of nutritional value, it is not suitable for refrigerator storage.

Hot Foods
Storing hot foods in the refrigerator both damages the refrigerator's mechanism and encourages bacterial growth.

Potatoes
Potatoes undergo a caramelization process in cold environments. In fact, it has been observed that when left for an extended period, they can become sweeter than sugar itself. For this reason, they should not be stored in the refrigerator.

Bread
Bread goes stale faster in the refrigerator and its flavor changes. If you want to store it for a long time, you can freeze it in the freezer. However, it is best to keep it in a sealed bag or container outside the refrigerator whenever possible.

Pineapple
Putting tropical fruits in the refrigerator causes them to spoil prematurely.

Watermelon
Putting watermelon in the refrigerator causes it to spoil prematurely.

Avocado
It has been observed that avocados begin to spoil prematurely when stored in the refrigerator.

Banana
Instead of putting bananas in the refrigerator, they should be stored at room temperature.

Onion and Garlic
Onions and garlic stored in the refrigerator can harden and their structure can deteriorate. It is best to store onions and garlic in a bag in a dry, cool place.

Honey
Although refrigerating honey does not cause structural spoilage, it is observed that the honey crystallizes and changes shape. Crystallized honey does not lose its nutritional value. Since honey is a non-perishable food, there is no need to store it in the refrigerator.

Peach
Storing peaches in the refrigerator can cause them to spoil more quickly.
