Foods That Boost Your Immunity, Sorted by Color
Reds are rich in vitamins A and C, while greens are packed with potassium! Here's how to identify immunity-boosting foods by their color so you can stay healthy all winter long.

As the weather cools and winter makes itself fully felt, illnesses are on the rise. The root cause of many ailments is a weakened immune system — a drop in the body's resistance that leaves it more vulnerable to germs. This is especially common during the winter months. To get through the season without getting sick, it's important to eat more of the foods that strengthen your body's defenses. But which foods are they, and how does each one support your health? There's actually a very easy way to identify them: by their color.

"Color variety in your diet should be a priority"
Merve İşeri Uzunoğlu, a lecturer in the Gastronomy Department at Altınbaş University, emphasizes that the natural colors of foods are an important indicator of the vitamins and minerals they contain, and shared practical tips on eating according to food color.
Stressing that the best immunity-boosting foods are natural, seasonal, and locally sourced, Uzunoğlu said: "You should opt for foods that have undergone minimal processing, contain no additives, are hormone-free, and are high in omega-3 — and you should prioritize color variety in your diet." She also noted that probiotics contribute to immunity by supporting a balanced digestive system and promoting brain health through their secretions. "In addition," Uzunoğlu added, "healthy fats — such as olive oil, avocado, butter, and coconut oil — also make a significant contribution to boosting the body's resistance when consumed in moderation." She further advised consumers to pay attention to seasonality when choosing fruits and vegetables, and to select firm, ripe produce.
