You or someone you know has definitely said at least one of these: “my hair won’t grow”, “my hair is full of split ends but I can’t bring myself to cut it”, “why did I listen to my hairdresser and cut my beautiful hair? How is it ever going to grow back now?” and so many more…

For lovers of long hair — and above all, for those who want healthy hair and a healthy scalp — we researched 7 essential oils down to the finest detail and put it all together in this article. Lately, we’ve been throwing our doors wide open to nature’s healing remedies. We’re both curious about and fond of natural methods. “Well, why use cosmetics when you have natural alternatives?” — a fair point, really. Below, we’ve compiled our blend recipes using essential oils sourced from a trusted herbalist and oils you likely already have at home.

Important Note: Even though the essential oils you’ll be using for your hair and scalp are plant-based, if you have any skin or hair conditions or allergies, you must consult your doctor first. In particular, if you experience any burning sensation, tingling, redness, or pain in the area where you’ve applied the oil, stop using it immediately.

7 essential oils for long and healthy hair

Of Course It’s First on the List: Olive Oil

If you ask “what is the most natural solution for growing hair?”, one ingredient always comes to mind first: Olive oil… The legendary olive oil — the Mediterranean’s beauty secret — is highly nourishing for hair roots, the scalp, and hair strands, thanks to the high levels of Vitamin E it contains. You can mix it with other plant-based oils if you wish, or use it on its own. Remember that for healthy hair and scalp, you should use olive oil in its most natural form: extra virgin olive oil.

How to Use: You can apply it a maximum of twice a week. Apply enough extra virgin olive oil by massaging it into your hair from root to tip. Wrap your head with a towel, leave it on for about 1 hour, then wash it out.

Coconut oil for hair growth

The Most Special of the Palm Family: Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is undoubtedly one of the biggest trends of recent times… It’s an indispensable staple in both skin and hair care products. Its lauric acid, fatty acids, and antimicrobial properties make it extremely beneficial for hair. Coconut oil is especially effective at strengthening damaged hair and also helps prevent dandruff. It promotes stronger, shinier hair and nourishes the hair roots and scalp. On top of all that, it moisturizes chronically frizzy hair and prevents static. What more could you ask for? :)

How to Use: Apply to the scalp with a massage twice a week. Wrap with a towel and leave on for about 1 hour. Then wash it out.

Rosemary oil for hair growth

The Evergreen of the Mint Family: Rosemary Oil

Rosemary oil is a highly effective essential oil for thickening hair and promoting rapid growth. As is well known, rosemary oil is used to accelerate cell metabolism — which is precisely why it stimulates hair growth and contributes to the healing process. Experts have also shown that rosemary oil acts similarly to minoxidil, a drug used for hair loss. On top of all that, this miraculous oil also helps delay hair graying.

How to Use: Once a week, apply it to your scalp either on its own or mixed with one or more of the oils on our list. Leave it on for about 30 minutes, then wash it out.

Castor oil for hair growth

Let’s Consult a Senior Expert on Hair: Castor Oil

Castor oil is also one of the most critical plant-based oils for growing hair fast the natural way. Thanks to this oil, which is rich in Vitamin E and protein, blood circulation in the scalp and the healing of scalp infections are both accelerated.

How to Use: You can gently rub it into your hair roots and scalp once or twice a week. If you want it to be more effective, you can mix it with one or more of the other oils on our list. Leave it on for about 40 minutes, then wash it out.

Sweet almond oil for hair and eyelashes

Great for Both Hair and Lashes: Sweet Almond Oil

It contains high levels of vitamins A, B, and K, as well as minerals such as potassium and calcium. Sweet almond oil — what can’t you do? It strengthens hair roots and helps hair grow faster. And it’s not just for hair — it shows results on eyelashes in a short time as well.

How to Use: You can apply it to your eyelashes every evening before going to bed. For your hair, apply it from root to tip once or twice a week, leave on for about 1 hour, then wash it out.

Argan oil for hair moisture and growth

A Trending Favorite of Recent Years: Argan Oil

Argan oil, known for moisturizing the scalp, also promotes fast and healthy hair growth. While the price tag can sting your wallet, you only need to buy it once and it will last a long time — plus the wonderful results you’ll get are a bonus! For that reason, it’s truly worth it for your hair.

How to Use: Once a week, apply it starting from the hair roots and working toward the tips. Wrap your hair with a towel and leave on for 1 to 1.5 hours, then wash it out.

Cedarwood oil for scalp circulation and hair growth

The Finest of Woody Scents: Cedarwood Oil

Cedarwood oil stimulates hair roots by boosting blood circulation in the scalp. For this very reason, it both contributes to hair growth and helps slow down hair loss.

How to Use: If you like, you can mix cedarwood oil with coconut oil and apply it to your scalp and hair. Alternatively, you can add 2–3 drops of this oil to your shampoo.

Wishing you healthy days…
