Ingredients for Vanilla Cookies (Vanilyalı Kurabiye)

  • 1/2 water glass (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp) vegetable oil
  • 1 water glass (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp) powdered sugar
  • 1/2 water glass toz sugar (granulated sugar)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 packets vanilla
  • 2.5 water glasses flour
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 dessert spoons (about 4 tsp) cocoa powder

How to Make Vanilla Cookies (Vanilyalı Kurabiye)

In a bowl, knead together 1/2 water glass (about 100 ml / 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp) vegetable oil, 1 water glass powdered sugar, 1/2 water glass granulated sugar, 1 whole egg plus 1 egg yolk, 2 packets vanilla, 2.5 water glasses flour, 1 packet baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Separate a tangerine-sized portion of the dough and knead in 2 dessert spoons (about 4 tsp) of cocoa powder into that portion. Roll the remaining dough into balls by hand and arrange them on a baking tray. From the cocoa dough, form small balls by hand and press down the centers. If you like, you can also make different shapes as shown in the photo. Whisk the reserved egg white and brush it over the cookies. Bake in a preheated oven at 190°C (375°F) until the tops are golden. Enjoy!

About This Recipe

Vanilla, as we know it, is also referred to as Vanilla planifolia, Vanilla plant, and Vanillier. Depending on the climate and soil in which it grows, the plant's stem can reach up to 20 meters (65 ft) in height. Its leaves are lance-shaped, with smooth edges, dark green or yellowish-green in color, fleshy, and each leaf is paired with a tendril that allows the plant to climb surrounding trees, walls, or fences. The ripened fruits are yellowish in color.

Because it is a plant that grows in tropical regions, it can only be cultivated in greenhouses or botanical gardens in our country. Vanilla is known to be beneficial to the human body — both its scent and flavor help in overcoming emotional distress. It reduces fever, strengthens the immune system, and has aphrodisiac properties. It also aids digestion, clears the bronchial passages, and acts as an expectorant.

We can't always be eating Chocolate Cookies! Today we've prepared our wonderfully fragrant Vanilla Cookie recipe just for you. Enjoy the process...
