Ingredients for Etli Mevlüt Pilavı (Beef Rice Pilaf)

  • 2 water glasses (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp each) rice
  • 400 g (about 14 oz) beef, cut into small cubes
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon + half tea glass (about 100 ml / 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp) vegetable oil
  • 2 water glasses (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp each) water
  • 1/2 dessert spoon (about 1 tsp) salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

How to Make Etli Mevlüt Pilavı (Beef Rice Pilaf)

  1. Pick over and rinse 2 water glasses of rice. Place in a bowl, cover with hot water until submerged, and let soak until the water cools. In a pilaf pot, melt 3 tablespoons of butter and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add 2 water glasses of water and bring to a boil, then add the drained rice and sprinkle with salt. Once boiling, reduce the heat and cook for 15 minutes.
  2. Rinse 400 g of cubed beef and place in a pot. Cook over low heat until the juices are fully absorbed. Once cooked, add half a tea glass of vegetable oil, half a dessert spoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper, then sauté until browned.
  3. To serve, place 2 tablespoons of the beef at the bottom of a bowl, then add pilaf on top and press down firmly. Invert onto a serving plate and remove the bowl.
