About This Recipe

Randomly picking mushrooms from nature, or trying to distinguish poisonous ones from edible ones by comparing them to pictures, is an extremely dangerous practice. The start of the rainy season signals a boom in mushroom growth. A network underground called mycelium forms macro-fungi. There are approximately 400,000 kilometers of mycelium in just 1 cubic meter of soil. Some mycelium that still produces mushrooms today is estimated to be 1,500 years old.

In general, most mushroom species consist of about 90% water. Mushrooms are also natural insect repellents. While they attract certain creatures, they repel others. Their spores act as a powerful repellent for more than 200,000 insect species, and they have no harmful effect on the environment whatsoever. Sunlight is not our only source of vitamin D — mushrooms are also very rich in vitamin D, and they produce particularly high amounts of it when exposed to sunlight.

Like all natural foods, mushrooms have both benefits and potential drawbacks. We must be very careful when buying, storing, and consuming mushrooms.
