- For the syrup:
- 3 water glasses (about 600 ml / 2.5 cups) granulated sugar
- 2 water glasses (about 400 ml / 1.75 cups) water
- Juice of half a lemon
How to Make Lokma (Turkish Fried Dough Balls)
For the syrup: transfer 3 water glasses of granulated sugar and 2 water glasses of water into a deep saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the syrup thickens. Add the juice of half a lemon, boil for another 2 minutes, then remove from heat and set aside to cool.
To prepare the bite-sized dough: place the flour in a mixing bowl and make a well in the center. Add 1 dessert spoon of dry yeast and granulated sugar into the well. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of salt over the flour around the edges. Moisten the yeast and sugar with the warm water to activate them. Begin kneading the dough, mixing from the center outward toward the edges. Transfer the dough to a separate bowl once it comes together. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rise for about 30 minutes.
