Ingredients for Sunflower Seed Bread

  • 2.5 water glasses (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp each)
  • 2 dessert spoons dry yeast
  • 2 dessert spoons granulated sugar
  • 5 water glasses flour
  • 1 dessert spoon salt
  • 1.5 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tea glass (about 100 ml / 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp) shelled sunflower seeds

How to Make Sunflower Seed Bread

Add half a water glass of lukewarm water to a bowl, stir in 2 dessert spoons of dry yeast and 2 dessert spoons of granulated sugar, and let rest for 5 minutes. Add 5 water glasses of flour, 1 dessert spoon of salt, and 2 water glasses of lukewarm water, then knead. If the flour is not enough, add more flour until the dough no longer sticks to your hands. Add 1.5 tablespoons of butter left at room temperature and 1 tea glass of shelled sunflower seeds, and knead again. Transfer to a floured work surface, sprinkle with a little flour, and knead a bit more.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rest for 1 hour. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide it in two. Shape each half into a round loaf by hand and place in a round baking pan greased with butter. Do the same with the remaining dough and place it in another round pan. Cover both with plastic wrap and let rest for 1 hour. Sprinkle a pinch of shelled sunflower seeds over the top of each prepared loaf.

Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (390°F) for 15 minutes, then lower the temperature to 190°C (375°F) and bake for a further 45 minutes. Once cooled, remove from the pans, brush the tops with a little vegetable oil, and your healthy bread — yielding a maximum of 6 slices — is ready. Enjoy!
