Ingredients for Chocolate Chip Bread

  • 1 water glass (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp) milk
  • 10 g dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 50 g butter
  • 1/2 tea glass (about 50 ml / 3 tbsp + 1 tsp) vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 bottle sparkling water (soda water)
  • 1 dessert spoon (about 2 tsp) salt
  • Flour, as much as needed
  • Chocolate chips
  • 1 egg yolk

How to Make Chocolate Chip Bread

  • In a bowl, combine 1 water glass (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp) of milk, 10 g dry yeast, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, 50 g of butter, half a tea glass (about 50 ml / 3 tbsp + 1 tsp) of vegetable oil, 2 eggs, 1 bottle of sparkling water, 1 dessert spoon of salt, and as much flour as needed, then knead into a dough.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rest for 1 hour.
  • Turn the rested dough out onto a floured surface and knead again. Pinch off pieces the size of a mandarin orange, flatten each one in your hand, place 5 chocolate chips in the center, fold the dough over them, and roll into a ball.
  • Arrange the prepared rolls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and let them rest for another 20 minutes.
  • Brush the tops with egg yolk and bake in a preheated oven at 190°C (375°F) until golden brown. Enjoy…

Tips & Tricks

  • It is very important that your milk and sparkling water are at room temperature. If you warm the milk slightly, the yeast will activate much faster and your bread will rise even more.
  • Letting the rolls rest on the tray for 20 minutes after shaping allows the air pockets inside the bread to form. Do not skip this step!
  • If you chill the chocolate chips in the refrigerator before adding them to the dough, they will hold their shape better in the oven and you'll enjoy that satisfying texture with every bite.
