Ingredients for Onion Soup
- 3 onions
- 1 garlic clove
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 3 water glasses (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp each) beef broth
- 2 water glasses water
- 1/2 dessert spoon (about 1 tsp) salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Grated kaşar cheese (Turkish semi-hard cheese, similar to mild cheddar)
How to Make Onion Soup
Peel and wash 3 onions, then cut them in half and slice them into half-moon shapes. Finely chop 1 garlic clove. Sauté in a pot with 1 tablespoon of butter and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add 1 bay leaf. Once the onions are caramelized, add 2 tablespoons of flour and sauté until the raw flour smell cooks off. Add 3 water glasses of beef broth, 2 water glasses of water, 1/2 dessert spoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, and cook while mixing with a hand mixer. When serving, top with grated kaşar cheese.
