Ingredients for Walnut & White Cheese Poğaça (Turkish Savory Buns)

  • 1 tea glass (about 100 ml / 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp) crushed walnuts
  • 100 g white cheese (similar to feta)
  • 1 tomato
  • 4 sprigs dill
  • Aleppo pepper flakes
  • 1 water glass (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp) + 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 24 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1 water glass (about 200 ml / 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp) yogurt
  • 50 g butter
  • 1 egg white and yolk (separated)
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • 1 dessert spoon (about 2 tsp) salt
  • Nigella seeds

How to Make Walnut & White Cheese Poğaça (Turkish Savory Buns)

  1. In a bowl, combine 1 tea glass of crushed walnuts, 100 g white cheese, 1 tomato cut into cubes, 4 sprigs of dill, Aleppo pepper flakes, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and mix well.
  2. In a separate bowl, knead together 24 tablespoons of flour, 1 teaspoon of vinegar, 1 water glass of vegetable oil, 1 water glass of yogurt, 50 g butter, 1 egg white, 1 packet of baking powder, and 1 dessert spoon of salt. Take pieces of dough roughly the size of a tangerine, flatten each one by hand, place the prepared filling in the center, and fold into a triangle shape to seal. Brush the tops with egg yolk and sprinkle with nigella seeds. Bake in the oven at 190°C (375°F) until the tops are golden brown.
