About This Recipe

White beans, a member of the legume family, are an important source of protein. Did you know that white beans — native to South America — contain the same amount of protein as meat? That is exactly why they are a wonderful protein alternative for those who do not enjoy meat and for vegetarians.

White beans, which we have been enjoying for centuries, are very rich in protein and inorganic salts. For this reason, they help strengthen bone structure and also fortify the nerves. White beans are an exceptionally rich food in terms of iron, zinc, potassium, magnesium, carbohydrates, protein, mineral salts, and molybdenum found in their composition. They also contain B-group vitamins. White beans are good for heart palpitations, help strengthen bones, and are recommended for those who suffer from kidney stones. Being a rich source of fiber, they are highly ideal both for the digestive system and in terms of the glycemic index. When consumed in reasonable amounts, they can have a protective effect against conditions such as diabetes. Thanks to their fibrous structure, they help lower bad cholesterol. Fibrous foods are also important for the absorption of calcium. Especially due to their fibrous nature, they are beneficial against problems such as constipation, indigestion, and bloating. They are rich in folic acid, and expectant mothers are advised to consume them twice a week. White beans contain starch, cellulose, and a high level of antioxidants.
